چکیده

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) is a material of choice for many biomedical coating applications. However, such applications are limited due to the toxicity traditional solvents used solution processing PMMA coatings and composites. This problem addressed using an isopropanol-water co-solvent, which allows dissolution high molecular mass fabrication by dip-coating method from concentrated solutions. The use co-solvent offers versatile strategy solubilization deposition, despite insolubility in water isopropanol. Interaction of Cells with Organic-Inorganic Nanocomposite Coatings for Titanium Implants

In order to evaluate the biocompatibility and bioactivity of recently described nanocomposite coatings, consisting of polyelectrolyte multilayers interspersed with calcium apatite crystals, extensive cell culture tests have been applied to coated and uncoated chemically etched titanium plates. The coatings had top calcium phosphate layers (PLL/PGA)10CaP[(PLL/PGA)5CaP]4 (A) or top polyelectrolyt...

Nanocomposite hydrogels for biomedical applications.

Hydrogels mimic native tissue microenvironment due to their porous and hydrated molecular structure. An emerging approach to reinforce polymeric hydrogels and to include multiple functionalities focuses on incorporating nanoparticles within the hydrogel network. A wide range of nanoparticles, such as carbon-based, polymeric, ceramic, and metallic nanomaterials can be integrated within the hydro...

Biomedical Applications of Magnetically Functionalized Organic/Inorganic Hybrid Nanofibers

Nanofibers are one-dimensional nanomaterial in fiber form with diameter less than 1 µm and an aspect ratio (length/diameter) larger than 100:1. Among the different types of nanoparticle-loaded nanofiber systems, nanofibers loaded with magnetic nanoparticles have gained much attention from biomedical scientists due to a synergistic effect obtained from the unique properties of both the nanofiber...

Nanocomposite flexible pressure sensor for biomedical applications

A new approach for the fabrication of flexible pressure sensors based on aligned carbon nanotubes (A-CNTs) is described in this paper. The technology is suitable for blood pressure sensors that can be attached to a stent-graft and deployed during an endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) procedure. Given the specifications of EVAR, the device should be foldable (extremely flexible) and characteriz...
